Jane Davenport is a professional artist, the author of 5 books and has had her own magazine column (called ‘Sects in the City!). Her highly collectible artwork is regularly featured in art galleries around the world. She is also one of Australia’s most successfully licensed artists with stationery and poster ranges. She is also the founder of, and chief designer for, ‘The Institute of Cute‘ in Byron Bay.
Everywhere in Jane’s beautifully coloured works are exquisite reminders of nature that call to the gentler aspects of our personalities to slow our pace, to observe and conserve. She has a passion for the little things; ladybirds, (ladybugs), butterflies, damselflies, beetles, bees, frogs and the myriad of other tiny creatures that are seldom noticed, but exist all around us.
Jane had to invent a word to adequately describe the specific and unique character of her work. She practices Artomology and describes herself as an Artomologist. ” I love bugs, photograph them and write about them, but I am not an entomologist. I had to invent a word to tell of my profession. I highly recommend this, as being the only one of something, you are also the best in the world at that thing!”
